Terms & Conditions
Last updated 26 October 2026
1. About these terms
These terms explain how we work with you when you use our website, download our free resources or buy any of our services. Please read them before you book. By booking a discovery call, accepting a proposal or paying for a service, you agree to these terms.
If your proposal, booking confirmation or a separate signed agreement says something different from these terms, the proposal, confirmation or agreement wins for that project.
2. Who we are
The CopyShift Creatives (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a writing agency founded by Matilda Okufi, based at Ascend Chatham Pentagon, First Floor, Chatham ME4 4HW, United Kingdom.
You can reach us at hello@thecopyshiftcreatives.com or on 0744 3322 145.
3. Our services
We provide writing, editorial and coaching services, including:
- Ghostwriting (Executive Author, Legacy Author and The Authority Atelier)
- Book coaching (1-to-1 Coaching, Group Coaching and the VIP One-Day Intensive)
- Editorial services, including content writing, copywriting, editing, content strategy and script writing
- Custom writing services, including email copy, blog articles and press releases
- One-hour consultancy sessions with Matilda Okufi
- Self-paced online courses (CopyShift Academy)
The exact scope of your project, what you will receive, the timeline and the price are set out in your proposal or booking confirmation.
4. Quotes, proposals and your booking
Prices on our website are a guide. Some services are priced from a starting figure or within a range because the final price depends on length, complexity and the level of support you choose.
After a discovery call we will send you a proposal or booking confirmation. Your booking is confirmed when you accept it in writing (email is fine) and pay any deposit or first instalment it asks for.
You can also buy a fixed-price package or a consultation online through our secure Stripe checkout. Your booking is confirmed when your payment succeeds. We will then contact you to arrange your first session and agree a timeline. The package description on our website, together with these terms, forms our agreement.
5. Fees and payment
- You agree to pay the fees, deposits and instalments set out in your proposal, by the dates it gives.
- Payment plans are available for some services. Where we agree a payment plan, the instalment dates in your proposal apply.
- We start work once we receive the deposit or first instalment. We may pause work, or hold back final files, if a payment is overdue, and we will tell you before we do this.
- Final deliverables and the transfer of rights described below take effect once you have paid in full.
- Prices are in pounds sterling (GBP). Optional add-ons are charged in addition to the package price.
6. Your responsibilities
To help us do our best work, you agree to:
- give us accurate information and the materials, access and feedback we need, in good time
- attend scheduled interviews, coaching sessions and check-ins, or let us know in good time if you cannot
- make sure anything you give us (stories, facts, images, quotes and data) is yours to share, is accurate, and does not infringe anyone else’s rights or break the law
- review drafts and give your approval or feedback within the timeframes we agree
You are responsible for checking the factual and legal accuracy of the final work before you publish it, especially where it describes real people, health, finance or legal matters.
7. Timelines and delays
Timelines on our website (for example, 8–10 weeks for an e-book or memoir) are typical, not guaranteed. Your proposal will set out the timeline for your project.
If feedback, materials or payments arrive late, the timeline will move accordingly. If we are delayed by something outside our reasonable control, we will tell you as soon as possible and agree a revised timeline with you.
8. Drafts, revisions and approval
Your proposal sets out the rounds of review and revision included. Extra rounds, or changes that go beyond the agreed scope, may be charged separately. We will always agree any extra cost with you before doing the work.
When you approve a final draft in writing, that part of the work is complete.
9. Ghostwriting, authorship and confidentiality
- When we ghostwrite for you, you are the named author. We will not publicly claim authorship of your work or reveal that we wrote it without your permission.
- We waive any moral right to be identified as the author of ghostwritten work we create for you.
- We keep your stories, materials and business information confidential, and only use them to deliver your project. This does not apply to information that is already public or that we are required to disclose by law.
- We are happy to sign a separate confidentiality agreement if you need one.
10. Intellectual property
- Once you have paid in full, we assign to you the copyright in the final deliverables we create for you, including manuscripts, copy, frameworks and other written assets.
- Your own material (your ideas, stories and existing content) always remains yours.
- We keep ownership of our own tools, templates, working methods and general know-how, and of any of our materials that existed before your project. Where any of these are included in your deliverables, you may use them as part of those deliverables.
- Drafts and work in progress remain ours until you have paid in full.
11. Portfolio and testimonials
We will only name you, show your work in our portfolio or publish your testimonial with your permission. You can withdraw that permission at any time by emailing us, and we will remove it from our website within a reasonable time.
12. Coaching programmes and the VIP One-Day Intensive
- Coaching gives you guidance, structure and feedback. Your results depend on your own writing and commitment, so we cannot guarantee that you will finish, publish or sell a book within a set time.
- If you need to move a coaching session or your intensive day, please tell us as early as possible. We will offer another date, subject to availability and to any terms in your booking confirmation.
- Community spaces are for writers on the programme. Please be respectful and keep other members’ work and stories confidential.
13. Your right to cancel if you are a consumer
If you are buying as an individual for personal use (not for a business), and you book at a distance (for example online, by email or by phone), you have the right to cancel within 14 days of the day your booking is confirmed, without giving a reason. This comes from the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
If you ask us to start work within those 14 days and then cancel, you will need to pay for the work we have done up to the time you tell us. If the service has been fully completed at your request within the 14 days, you lose the right to cancel.
To cancel, email hello@thecopyshiftcreatives.com. We will refund any money due within 14 days, using the payment method you used.
As a consumer, you also have legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including the right to services carried out with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms affects those rights.
14. Online courses (CopyShift Academy)
- Online courses are digital content. You pay once, at the price shown at checkout, by card or another method offered by our payment provider Stripe, and the course unlocks in your Academy account.
- You can use the course for as long as we offer it, and for at least 12 months from the date you buy it.
- Course accounts must be created by an adult aged 18 or over. If a course is for a child, the parent or guardian creates the account and supervises its use.
- If you are a consumer, you can cancel within 14 days of purchase for a full refund as long as the course has not been started. A course counts as started when you open its first lesson. When you enrol, you ask for immediate access and acknowledge that you lose the right to cancel once the course is started (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, regulation 37).
- Course materials are for your household’s personal use. Please do not share your login or copy, resell or republish the lessons or workbook.
- If the course is faulty or not as described, you keep your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
15. Ending a project
- You can end a project at any time by telling us in writing. You will need to pay for the work completed up to that point and for any costs we cannot recover. Any refund due will be set out in our reply. Your rights as a consumer, above, still apply.
- We can end a project by giving you written notice if you do not pay an amount you owe after we have reminded you, if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if continuing would be unlawful or harmful. We will refund any payment for work not yet carried out.
16. Publishing and third parties
Where our services include publishing guidance, KDP set-up, design or launch support, we will help you through those steps, but third-party platforms (such as Amazon KDP, retailers, publishers and literary agents) make their own decisions and set their own terms. We cannot guarantee publication, acceptance by an agent or publisher, sales, rankings or reviews.
17. Our shop
Products in our shop are sold through our Etsy store. When you buy them, Etsy’s terms of use and our Etsy shop policies apply to that purchase, including delivery, returns and refunds.
18. Paid consultations
Consultancy sessions are booked and paid for online in advance. If you need to move a session, contact us as early as possible and we will offer another time, subject to availability.
19. Free resources and downloads
Our free workbooks and templates are for your personal use. You may print and use them for your own writing, but please do not resell, republish or share them as your own.
20. Using our website
- The content on this website, including text, images and design, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by copyright. You may view and share it for personal, non-commercial use with a link back to us.
- We work to keep the website accurate and available, but we do not guarantee that it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free.
- Links to other websites are provided for convenience. We are not responsible for their content.
21. Our responsibility to you
- We will carry out our services with reasonable care and skill.
- We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, for business losses (such as lost profit or opportunity) if you are a consumer, or for losses caused by information or materials you provided.
- If you are a business client, our total responsibility to you for any project is limited to the fees you have paid for that project.
- Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
22. Complaints
If something is not right, please tell us at hello@thecopyshiftcreatives.com. We will acknowledge your complaint promptly and work with you to put things right.
23. Your privacy
We use your personal information only as described in our Privacy Policy.
24. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page when you book applies to your project. The date at the top shows when they were last updated.
25. Law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
